Tennessee Criminal History is a private reference service, not a public records office. Questions about an official Tennessee criminal record must go to the agency that created or maintains it. That may be TBI for a state repository check, TDOC for a felony offender record, a Tennessee court clerk for a case file, or an agency in one of the state's 95 counties for a booking or police record. The routing below identifies the proper public source for each common request.

This Is Not a Government Office. Tennessee Criminal History cannot retrieve official records, perform government background checks, correct repository data, or receive expungement filings. Contact the Tennessee agency or court responsible for the record.

Need an Official Record?

Tennessee divides criminal-record access by record type and custodian. Use the following official route:

  • State criminal history and rap sheets: use the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation repository and its TORIS unit
  • Felony custody or supervision: search the Tennessee Department of Correction Felony Offender Information Lookup, known as FOIL
  • Sex offender information: use the TBI Tennessee Sex Offender Registry or contact the registering agency shown on a profile
  • Trial court files: review the Tennessee criminal court case guidance and contact the clerk for the court that heard the matter
  • Police and incident reports: ask the law-enforcement agency that prepared the original report
  • Expungement: begin with the clerk of the Tennessee court where the matter originated
  • Local booking, jail, warrant, and county court records: find the correct county source through the 95-county directory

For a Tennessee name-based criminal-history check, the verified state contact is the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, TORIS Unit, 901 R.S. Gass Boulevard, Nashville, TN 37216, phone 615-744-4057. TORIS is a Tennessee repository product and is distinct from a county court file, police report, or TDOC offender record.
